Tactics Ogre Reborn has over three dozen unique characters to recruit. Many are important story characters that players will grow attached to. Others are simply named generics that have a few unique lines or a special sprite as their default class.

While all recruited characters have an initial class, players are still free to switch them at any time. However, all characters are initially trained to be a tad better at their first class. Also, many story characters do not switch their sprite; the holy Father Donnalto will always dress as a Cleric even when he is a raging Berserker or stealthy Ninja.
