The weakest of the Alien movies for me, as it feels barely connected with the rest of the franchise, even with the presence of Ripley and a Xenomorph. Too much has ed between this and Alien 3, making this world feel incompatible with what came before or too uninteresting to care, while the underlying menace of Weyland Yutani is stripped for a more generic feeling antagonistic faction. When pared with a uninteresting cast, this movie feels like an easy skip in any Alien marathon.

The people I follow on film twitter and letterboxd got me excited for this one. Thought it was going to be a step up from Alien 3, which I thought was better than most say. Didn't like this one as much. Didn't like it much at all. The pirate crew is unbearable in my opinion as the Joss Whedon flair shines through. Thought what they did with Ripley was interesting though.

Ellen Ripley returns in a movie that turns all the franchise's subtext into booming text. The imagery remains unique and staggering, but the story was over long before this installment started.
