The CW's take on superheroes has been hit or miss over the last decade. Black Lightning definitely leans more toward the hit side of the spectrum. The CW isn't known for producing its shows with the highest budgets, so when a series needs a lot of effects, it can be difficult for a show to get the best mileage out of its budget. Black Lightning does though. From the very first episode, it's able to provide superhero antics and social commentary in a way that a lot of other shows on the network couldn't, and that's part of what makes it so great.

So Black Lightning is one of my all time favorite comic book characters, so while the budget wasn't always the greatest, it was cool to see it adapted and it works for what it is.
