  • Having similar themes like SHAZAM! and other emotional superhero films, Blue Beetle has a great lead actor, ing cast and action with plenty of humor and heart.

  • The DCEU ended on a high with this one. Funny and heartwarming. The suit looks awesome as do the effects. I really hope James Gunn follows through on bringing this character and his family back in the new DCU.

  • Though I love an interesting superhero story, Blue Beetle is not a character I was hugely familiar with before seeing the movie. Perhaps that worked in my favor because I found the movie to be a breath of fresh air in the crowded landscape of superhero movies. I love the emphasis on the Reyes family here and that they get to unapologetically embrace their Mexican-American heritage even as their entire world is turned on its axis. It's the family dynamics that make the movie so fantastic compared to many of the other comic book movies released in recent years.

Blue Beetle Review: Xolo Maridueña Shines In DC's Funny & Touching Hero Tale
7/10

Blue Beetle's family-centric story has universal appeal, but the strength of the new DC movie lies in Jaime Reyes' ties to his Mexican heritage.
