WHERE TO WATCH

  • I for one have loved this movie. Yes I'm a fan of the game. And that is in itself is saying something as I do not enjoy first person shooter. However, the wit and playful chaos win me over, and spent hundreds of hours playing. The only film in years I can re-watch and still smile. The cast in my opinion are fantastic. They kept it fun. Watch it you will likely want to watch it again... and again in my book.

  • I don't know if it's necessarily in defense of this movie or in defense of the art of making movies that entertain people to take them out of the doldrum of their everyday life into a world that we can only imagine through movies.

I am not familiar with the game and that's okay because I believe that left me not to have a bias and compare it against the game and or its characters.

The movie as a whole I believe held its own. It told the story of something that existed in the universe long before, setting up the movies plot.

The actors that played the various parts were genuinely I believe suited for the roles that they played.

I going to the theater when it opened and thinking wow I've been waiting to see it because it was very enticing from the trailer and the characters, and so I went to the movie to be nothing more than entertained and taken out of my everyday routine of living and working in New York City and it delivered.

At times I feel that a lot of movies appear to be reviewed by people that are either too much into the industry and not looking at it from the perspective of the person on the street that lives and deal with so many different things that going to a movie is nothing more than to escape from the challenges of everyday life whether it's New York City, Chicago, San Francisco or even a small town in the middle of Nebraska it doesn't matter, movies should be made for the purpose of entertaining us. That's why there are a variety of different movies genres. We all have different tastes we all have different things that make us take life or not too serious, wanting more than what we need, that we forget to live let alone take care of our most basic needs of laughing & smiling inside and out, instead of crying and despairing about our lives. We're all wired differently yet the most common element is our humanity and going to be entertained hopefully allows us to reset our lives.

  • While the ing characters don't get enough time to shine due the film's rushed pacing, Borderlands is still an awesome action film thanks its good humor, visuals and Blanchett's engaging performance.

  • I went into Borderlands with my expectations on the floor, so I was pleasantly surprised that it was a watchable movie (at least in my opinion). The best part of the film is the performances, and you can tell the cast of A-listers definitely did the best they could with the material they were given.

Borderlands biggest problem is that it doesn't know who its target audience is. The extent of the film's similarity to the video game series is the character names. Other than that, the film took so many creative liberties with the story that fans of the game will be confused as to what's happening to their favorite characters. On the other hand, the film isn't made for non-fans either. There's enough there for it to as a generic action movie, but the film is constantly throwing out there that only die-hard fans would know.

Borderlands needed to pick a direction – either commit to a full-out love letter to the video game for the loyal fans of the series, or make a self-contained film that general audiences could understand while actually explaining the terminology it's using.

7/10

Borderlands rushes through too many plot points for its own good, but it's saved by its likable cast and willingness to lean into video game moments.
