  • The best Disney live-action "Remake" by far, Cruella is a fun reimagining of an iconic villain that adds an interesting twist to the character's lore. Cruella's tale is given a tragic inciting incident, but she never loses her edge despite being softened, making her a complicated figure to root for. Everyone is giving their strongest in this stylish, fun-to-watch feature.

  • Very enjoyable. It's true that villain's backstory is rather not a happy fairytale story, but that's what it is. Like many other films tackling villain backstories viewers can see that all characters originally depicted as fully evil had a very sad background, were broken and they weren't born evil, only they had it thrust upon them. This helps you to see people and characters in a better light and understand the development of a character. Outside Cruella's backstory and Emma vs Emma plot, I found the Costume Design GREAT which definitely deserved its Oscar. I also grew up watching 101 Dalmatians - live-action a few times and especially beloved Disney animation.

  • Why we needed a "serious, dark" retelling of Cruella de Vil's origin story - or why we needed a Cruella de Vil origin story period - is something I will never understand. Truthfully, I'm more impressed at just how bad this is despite how many talented people are involved both in front and behind the camera.

Cruella Review: Emma Stone Is The Beating Heart Of Masterfully Nuanced Origin
8/10

Brazenly bold and expertly woven, Cruella excels on multiple fronts - prime being its dark humor and aesthetics, and a deliciously sublime Emma Stone.
