The original live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies are cinematic masterpieces in my opinion. Those films represent everything amazing about the novels: Greg's sarcastic and dry humor, Rowley's bubbly charisma, Rodrick's lazy, angsty teen persona, etc. All the characters in this movie felt flat and lacked the aspects of their personalities that make them so vibrant and hilarious in the books and original film trilogy. The animation style also left much to be desired and I don't feel that the original illustrations in the books translate well to a cartoon style.
