  • I am biased in that I’m not a Baz Luhrmann fan in general, but this is the director at one of his most annoying states yet. He is just throwing style at the wall, even when it doesn’t make sense, and the performance from Tom Hanks is pretty cringe. Austin Butler was fantastic though, and deserves his awards attention.

  • I thought this was an interesting glimpse into Elvis's life and career, but some of the scenes and plot points felt unnecessary and like they didn't really add much to the story about Elvis's life.

  • WOW! Watch it for pure its entertainment value and be mesmerized by Elvis, I mean Austin Butler’s performance. Truly a star making, Oscar worthy turn. Highly rewatchable. Does that rare thing of making you actually feel something while watching.

  • Elvis is a visually stunning delight that catalogues the life of a legend of music, it is grandiose and a spectacle to behold, with Luhrmann's style on full display throughout the feature, and I feel it really fits in this scenario as it depict's the Colonel's recollections of his and Elvis' career, and the whirlwind brought about by the artist in his rise to fame. Austin Butler emerges as the strongest performer in the cast, making this biopic one to learn from.

  • Baz Luhrmann in all of his maximalist excess. The editing is dizzying and the energy rarely lets up for the long runtime. I like Luhrmann's sensibilities as a director but felt like this could have been reigned in just a bit more. Needed more focus on the actual narrative of Elvis' life to really make an impact.

Elvis Review: What Luhrmann's Biopic Lacks In Depth It Makes Up For In Style
6/10

The film is beautiful & has an electric energy, especially during Elvis’ performances, but it can't maintain the same enthusiasm it started with.
