Synopsis
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw unites the unlikely duo of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw in the Fast Saga's first spinoff movie. The titular anti-heroes don't cross paths with Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto this time. Instead, they fight Idris Elba's artificially enhanced super soldier Brixton Lore with the help of Shaw's sister Hattie and mother Magdelene, played by Vanessa Kirby and Helen Mirren, respectively.

Hobbs & Shaw Review: The Rock's Fast & Furious Spinoff Lands With a Thud

Hobbs & Shaw is partially successful in evolving the Fast & Furious property, yet mostly comes off feeling like a branding exercise for The Rock.

I am not a fan of the Fast and the Furious franchise, but I did enjoy this movie. It felt just far away from the main series to take it on its own , and I enjoyed the begrudging alliance between Johnson's Hobbs and Statham's Shaw. Idris Elba is always a joy to see on screen, and Vanessa Kirby was a welcome new addition to the cast. Alongside a solid, easy to follow plot, this all results in a movie I could see myself putting on in the background and enjoying once more in the future.
