I think this movie failed to see that the original Independence Day was catching lightning in a bottle. A gathering of lovable stars for a simple premise with still spectacular special effects. Even with the majority of the cast returning, this sequel overly complicates its world in hopes of creating a franchise while lacking any of the memorable moments or iconography, becoming forgettable very quickly.
