  • I did not enjoy Jungle Cruise. It felt bland and suffered from the same problem most of Disney's new live-action films do: it lacks any heart, charm, soul, or anything else that would differentiate it from every other generic movie.

  • Disney hoped for Pirates of the Caribbean magic, but Jungle Cruise was instead a generic flop. Featuring Disney's 100th "first gay character," they could've had something here if the romance had been between the brother character and the Rock, who had much better chemistry than the Rock and Emily Blunt. Unfortunately, it just made me want to rewatch the 1999 cinematic masterpiece The Mummy, starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Wiesz.

Synopsis

Jungle Cruise is based on Disney's theme park attraction of the same name, offering up a fantastical thrill ride through the South American jungle. Set in 1916, Jungle Cruise follows Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) and her brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall) as they set off on an expedition to locate the Tears of the Moon, flowers fabled to cure any illness or disease. Arriving in Brazil, they enlist the help of savvy riverboat captain Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson), who helps them escape a villainous German prince also on the hunt for the Tears.

Jungle Cruise Review: Blunt & Johnson Are Electric In Disney's Pirates Riff
7/10

Led by the delightful pairing of Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, Jungle Cruise knows how to enjoy itself, even if the journey is a bit overstuffed.
