  • Matthew Vaughn siphons out some of the cruelty of Mark Millar's original comic and adds a dose of heart, creating the best version of this fun, surprising superhero pastiche.

  • With how far the superhero genre has come, Kick Ass has absoloutely fallen under the radar, which is a shame because in many ways it is ahead of its time. A meta take on the genre a-la Scream with an in-the-know fanboy protagonist, and plenty of strong performances from both comedic powerhouses, and actors who would become very familiar with the Superhero genre. Yet, despite poking fun at everything and being an adaptation of a Mark Millar story, it is strangely upbeat and hopeful, and is a fun exploration of the Superhero genre.

Synopsis

When average teen Dave Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is mugged, he decides to take matters into his own hands and becomes the vigilante Kick-Ass. Armed with little more than a can-do attitude and nerve damage that makes him resistant to pain, the adolescent hero stumbles into a serious criminal organization. Teaming up with Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), Kick-Ass works to take them down, despite the fact that he's in over his head.

You're going to be hearing this over and over for months to come, but Kick-Ass simply kicks ass. 'Nuff said.
