  • Not ground breaking but it wasn't bad. Genuinely enjoyable.

  • While it has great animation and a few good jokes, Lightyear fails to expand on the Toy Story franchise in any meaningful way thanks to a cliched character arc for its lead and a convoluted narrative filled with mixed messages. Buzz Lightyear didn't need a spinoff story, but anyone who wants to see one would be much better off watching the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon from the 2000s.

  • A really beautiful looking movie that I couldn't care less about. Baffling choice to make this the Buzz Lightyear "origin story." Only it isn't an origin story for the toy in the movie but rather a tedious sci fi film that Andy went to see as a kid. Just doesn't make sense for that to be the direction Pixar decided to take. Didn't hit the emotional highs that the studio is known for.

  • As a movie, I don't think this film is bad. It's a solid space-faring time-travel plot with a good cast and some solid gags. Yet, my biggest gripe is how I feel that this would've done better without the Toy Story tie-in, and I genuinely feel very little would change if you took away the Lightyear branding, and all that did is create expectations that this movie could not live up to.

  • The animation is spectacular and the idea is intriguing since Buzz Lightyear is a character so many people love from the Toy Story franchise. However, his best moments occur in the original Toy Story movies, and this film just falls flat in a lot of ways.
