  • What a way to make a remake! Truly dazzling performances, fantastic from start to finish. Cinematically alluring, almost rhythmic. And I cannot say it loud enough, Eliza Scanlan is a talent to watch!

  • Absolute perfection. I've loved Little Women since I first read an abridged version as a kid, and I'm amazed at how Greta Gerwig managed to make this one feel so timely and perfect for today, while still keeping it very much a complete period piece. So many moments resonate deeply for me, such as Jo mourning the end of childhood. This just might be my absolute favorite movie.

  • Greta Gerwig shines as the director of this film, using discontinuous narrative and the episodic scenes from the novel to craft a story about growing up, womanhood, and family. While Jo March is clearly the main character, her sisters also get their starring moments, showing the various pressures on women of the time, and the paths available to them.

  • I love to see new directors and writers get the chance to adapt something that multiple generations have already put their stamp on. It's interesting to see how things change, and Greta Gerwig makes this version of Little Women feel both classic and modern with her take on the story. Her choice to have Jo telling the story to her publisher gives the movie its own unique narrative. This movie also makes Amy a much more likable character than other versions have, allowing the audience to really understand why she is the way she is. In short, it's a great reflection of how storytelling has changed alongside a fantastic story.
