  • I like that rather than just do a shot-for-shot live-action remake, like Disney often chooses to do, of Sleeping Beauty, they chose to rewrite an entirely new story. Angelina Jolie's performance is captivating, and so are the fantasy elements and impressive visuals.

  • This is really a hair and makeup and costume design freak's dream, but the actual content of the film was nothing special. I think it is one of those unnecessary spinoffs / requels, even if it does look visually nice.

Synopsis

A live-action reimagining of the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent follows the titular fairy witch (Angelina Jolie) in a dark fantasy origin story. After falling in love with a human, Maleficent is betrayed when he steals her wings. Swearing revenge, she curses his infant daughter, Princess Aurora, leading to a retelling of the beloved fairytale from an alternate perspective.
