Synopsis
Matilda is the 1996 live-action movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1988 novel of the same name. It tells the story of Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), a child prodigy who develops telekinetic powers while dealing with her abusive family and her school's dictatorial principal Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris) with the help of her teacher Miss Honey (Embeth Davidtz). Danny DeVito directs the film and plays Matilda's father, Harry.

Charming, quirky, and absolutely uplifting in the face of cynicism, I have grown to really enjoy this movie as time has ed. DeVito's directing is perfect, and he and Rhea are perfect as the neglectful parents, fun, but oh-so despicable. The highlight is Pam Ferris' Trunchbull, an absolute force to be reckoned with, even as she devours the scenery

I was a huge fan of the Matilda novel when I was younger and although this movie wasn't an absolutely perfect adaption of the book, it comes pretty close, capturing a lot of the charm and humor of the book it is based on.
