  • This is one of the rare cases where I actually enjoyed a Disney movie sequel (prequel) more than the original. While I love the original story, this was just so much more fun and we really get to see more of the monster world and its creatures which I enjoyed. It also makes the original better as we have more of a foundation as to why some characters are the way they are later on.

  • A second movie in the Monsters Inc. franchise definitely wasn't necessary, but it worked because they chose to do a prequel instead. The college setting was such a great choice for these characters. By the end of the first film, you already have a pretty good idea of who Mike and Sully are, so showing them in their younger years meant that we could see a new side to them. The ing characters were hilarious too. I loved this insight into Mike and Sully's hard work since the first film just opens with them already being successful.

  • Rarely do sequels live up to the original film, but Monsters University does just that. Monsters University is a prequel, following Mike and Sulley during their college days. The movie is not only funny, but an excellent origin story that properly introduces the Monsters Inc. characters we all know and love.

  • On par with Monsters Inc. for me. I really like this movie and I think the college setting was such a good choice. Really enjoyed all the characters in this one and how the movie shows that it's okay not to be good at things. Maybe the thing you want the most isn't realistic. You can still find something else you are good at that you can also love.

  • While Monsters University does fall into some cliches with its writing and doesn't have the strongest characters outside of its principal leads, there's plenty of great comedy from start to finish that's brilliantly complemented by an emotionally resonant and mature story about self-worth that anyone in college is sure to relate to. Despite the mixed reputation it has, it's one of Pixar's strongest works and a great prequel to Monsters, Inc.

'Monsters University' Review
7/10

Monsters University proves to be as spiritually-uplifting and pleasant as Monsters, Inc., but isn't equally strong as a creative accomplishment - and might not be as well-ed in the long run.
