  • This is probably my favorite Tarantino movie and my favorite Brad Pitt performance. Think that Leo has never been funnier than he is in this one. I could have watched this for many more hours. The ending is some of the best focused violence I have seen in a while which is a surprise for a movie that is largely about hanging out with the boys.

  • I find it really hard to gauge Tarantino, who burrows so far into his references that on many occasions, they might as well be theft. Is Once Upon a Time... misogynistic? I truly don't know. I left with the intense sense that Margot Robbie's Sharon Tate perfectly captured the tragedy of a young, creative person being killed in the prime of their life and career for no good reason, but is she actually given anything to do?

For all its flaws, realized and hypothetical, not a single moment is anything other but fascinating and propulsive, and scene after scene renders its characters and sense of place fascinating.

  • Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is far from Tarantino’s best, but it is entertaining. Pitt and DiCaprio are at some of their best here, and the set design (whether mocking a film set or not) was a great add to the story.

Synopsis

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton, the former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth.
