While DC and Marvel have typically tried to keep their superhero projects heroic for the most part, there has been some great success for shows like The Boys and Invincible where heroes are also deeply flawed people.

Peacemaker pushes the boundaries for this type of realistic superhero story, and it does so with flare. It's funny, dramatic, and an excellent expansion of the story from The Suicide Squad which connects other aspects of the DCEU on a more grounded level.

Probably my favorite thing to emerge from the divisive DCEU. James Gunn and John Cena cooked up something truly special with this series. The opening credits are unbelievably creative and I am glad that everyone in this show committed to the bit fully. Some of the funniest dialogue I have ever heard in a superhero adaptation. Peacemaker's vulnerability is refreshing.

With great comedic and dramatic writing and even greater action and visuals to accompany it, Peacemaker is one of the strongest of James Gunn's projects to date and an excellent follow-up to the equally stellar The Suicide Squad. There's never been a superhero show quite like Peacemaker, and it will be great to see what it does with its second season.

Good not great. John Cena is incredibly well cast, and the team growing into a found family is done well and resonates. The show does 'random' well, with characters like Vigilante mixing things up without breaking the logic of why we should care about these people. Unfortunately, it simply has more screentime than story and by a LOT.

John Cena is a underated talent. Peacemaker really allows him to show off his full range, from comedy to drama and, of course, action. Continuing the tone set by The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker is a welcome character-focused story, giving Peacemaker the chance to grapple with his briefly alluded to trauma, alongside a incredible ive cast in a surprisingly deep invasion story. I have no idea where the season will go in Gunn's rebooted DCU, but season 1 is one of the best DC projects put to screen.
