  • In many ways, Scrubs hasn't aged well. Its sexism and discomfort around race are shot through it from beginning to end, and yet there's something about all of the main characters and their relationships that has stood the test of time, especially in the early seasons where the fraught lives of med students is front and center.

  • Medical drama usually means one thing more than anything else, but Scrubs creates its own path. The show focuses on the comedy and fun that is typically a byproduct of medical dramas, and puts that at the heart of the show. As a result, you get a medical drama that is more concerned with creating engaging characters, than heavy-handed medical infodumps. Of course, there are heavier episodes and incredibly emotional episodes which are made all the better because of this connection with the characters.

I love it, and it is laugh out loud funny all the way up to the penultimate season. Pretend that final season doesn't exist though, as its essentially a push for a spin-off which is labelled as being the same show.

  • While Scrubs has always left me laughing, what I've grown more to appreciate with age is how earnest and honest it is. It doesn't paint the medical field as glamorous, and is honest about the stresses that the profession brings through the wonderfully cynical Dr. Cox. Yet, it feels hopeful too, its imaginative sequences and the optimism of JD shows in the face of sometimes overwhelming tragedy creates a show that stands out not only among other sitcoms, but even far more serious medical dramas.
