I really, really wish this show was good. There was so much promise of it being an espionage thriller just like one of the most beloved MCU projects ever, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Having a Nick Fury solo series felt like a long time coming, but the show did absolutely no favors for the character. If anything, it made him look pretty incompetent which we know isn't true. Maria Hill was completely disrespected with her death and that's the moment I knew that the show was going to lose me pretty quickly. The only saving grace of is Oliva Colman's Falsworth, but of course she only appears for a few brief moments. The show ultimately leaves me with more questions than answers, and the MCU looks pretty dead set on not answering them.

Between a lazy script with an utter lack of stakes, too much focus on new characters over the ones people are familiar with, and a final fight with some of the worst action and execution in the MCU, Secret Invasion fails as both an adaptation of the classic story and as a TV show, in general. It's an easy contender for the worst MCU project of the past decade, and it hopefully won't be one the MCU feels obligated to go back to, anytime soon.

In general, I'm a Marvel fanboy, but even I can't make sense of what went wrong with this one. the story was generally slow and lacking. The visual effects were evidently terrible. And the story felt undercooked. For a show that should have delivered espionage and excitement to the MCU, try Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Secret Invasion is not it.

I really wanted to like this show because I thought the premise of the Skrulls being embedded on Earth held such promise. Unfortunately, the show didn't live up to the hype. It also created one of the worst MacGuffins the MCU has ever had. Who exactly thought it was a good idea to create a cocktail of every superpower ever and put it in one place? That's not a great premise for a movie universe that wants to keep expanding.

It should be impossible to make something this boring out of these ingredients. I love Marvel, my wife loves shapeshifters, and yet we got two episodes into this dull series before quitting. Pure place-setting for future Marvel projects, with essentially no redeeming qualities.
