  • Shrek came into being because of conflicts between animation professionals in the early aughts. It’s continued to be culturally relevant for 20 years, despite dated references and CGI. Honestly inspiring in its lack of self consciousness.

  • Shrek shouldn't have aged as well as it has, but alongside the constant jabs at Disney, the movie genuinely cares about its rough-around-the-edges ogre and his personal growth.

  • As much as Shrek comes off as just a snarky parody of Disney films, underneath that is a film with lots of great comedy and a surprising amount of heart whenever it decides to play itself straight. Shrek has endured as a franchise for over 20 years now, and with how great a note it started on, it's easy to see how that came to be.

  • Shrek is a very funny movie that flips Disney tropes on its head. I don't even care that a lot of the jokes were dated because of pop culture references. Feels like a time capsule into childhood. Think it is the best one of all the Shrek movies.

  • Who doesn't love Shrek? The first film is still the best in the franchise by far, paving the way for all other animated films that came after it. It checks all the boxes: humor, fantastic music, great characters, impressive animation, and a phenomenal plot. Donkey and Shrek's interactions are laugh-out-loud hysterical. This movie is definitely worth rewatching over and over again.
