  • I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and he's one of the best Spider-Mans in my opinion. This movie was one I really enjoyed in middle school, and coming back to it as an adult, it's still just as enjoyable and fun.

  • Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have very strong chemistry in this one. I think I would like it even more if it wasn't coming off the cinematic genius that is Sam Raimi's trilogy. Does everything just a little bit worse which makes it feel pointless at times even though it definitely isn't. Still like it though. Better than all of the MCU Spidey flicks in my opinion.

  • Half a good movie stapled to half a bad movie, with the break essentially exactly halfway through the film. A modern Spidey who feels more relatable today than the accurate (but ultimately frustrating) hard-luck Tobey Maguire version. Still, if you cast Rhys Ifans as a supervillain and he's the bad part of a movie, you messed up big.

  • The Amazing Spider-Man had big shoes to fill coming only 5 years after the Raimi trilogy, but it mostly delivers in its mature take. The reboot had huge potential to drag since not much is really reinvented from the original Spider-Man story, but the film is largely carried by Andrew Garfield's witty and sarcastic portrayal of Peter Parker along with his undeniable chemistry with Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy.

  • This film is often regarded as the weakest of the Spider-Man holy trinity (Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, & Tom Holland), but I can't understand why. I do have a biased attachment to Tobey's Spiderman purely because of nostalgia, but honestly, Andrew does perhaps the most comic-accurate representation of Peter Parker we've ever seen. I think these films just didn't have their full chance to shine since Marvel brought Tom Holland into the spotlight rather quickly, but The Amazing Spider-Man genuinely is a great Spider-Man film and I don't think any fan of this character would be disappointed with these.

As a film seeking to justify its own new beginning, Amazing Spider-Man ends up being a solid relaunch, rather than a good or (wait for it) amazing one.
