  • I've never understood why Age of Ultron gets such a bad rap. It's criminally underrated considering James Spader was the voice of Ultron, the Avengers were united and in their prime, amazing new heroes were introduced with Wanda, Pietro, and Vision, and there was even time for a Hulkbuster battle! The movie has some epic twists, and also serves as a key building block for the Infinity Saga's future. The only real problem was Ultron's apparent demise at the end, which felt like a massive waste of his potential.

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the weakest Marvel movies made during this era, in my opinion. Ultron was a cool villain, but I feel like there is a lot of wasted potential with him, because he could've done a lot more in this movie than he did. This movie is widely considered the worst Avengers film and I'd agree with that sentiment.

  • I really not liking this film when it first came out, perhaps it felt like an underwhelming follow-up to the original Avengers. However, it's definitely one that I appreciate more as time goes on. I'd say it's actually even slightly better than the original Avengers, not just in the clear Disney budget improvement but the performances themselves. Story can jump around from time to time, and Age of Ultron does have one of my least favorite MCU storylines ever (Bruce and Natasha's romance), but I'm always pleasantly surprised when I rewatch Age of Ultron since I had such a bad impression of it at first.

  • A definite improvement from Whedon's first swing at the MCU's big superhero crossover team. I know a lot of people take issue with it trying to set up too many other films, but in the grand scene of the MCU, it lays down some solid foundation for the series going forward. Ragnarok was going to be so much cooler before Taika got involved. Ultron is pretty sweet.

  • Ultimately, the blockbuster Avengers franchise was simply too big for Joss Whedon's expertise. Scenes feel disconnected, with a checklist of 'moments' to fit in. Why are Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver here? Because it's time to introduce them. The film is smug about its twist despite not earning it, and fails to sell the 'Ultron is Tony's ego unbound' premise. That said, everyone is well cast and James Spader is AMAZING in the title role - goosebumps.

7/10

It misses the bar of classic movie greatness but Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the most exciting and entertaining Marvel entries.
