  • A cinematic classic. I do feel its best you give this movie your full attention on every viewing, as part of the charm is being trapped in this detention setting with the characters, focusing in on every little detail. The writing and performances bring each character to life, with each student having an additional depth that makes you feel more for them. By the time the movie is over, you feel like part of the group, and feel sad to leave.

  • The Breakfast Club is a staple of 80s cinema and one of the most influential coming of age movies of all time. Love how it respects its teenage protagonists. Some of my favorite moments in any YA film. A really great soundtrack with one of the most triumphant endings in movie history.

  • I can't believe this movie was 40 yrs ago, but, it's 💯 proof, how a great movie on a great theme is timeless, because it's as relevant today as it was in the 80s.

I related to both Alley's character and Judd's..High School was not my years of fond memories, more like I rarely attended. I didn't fit in( Alley's character) and I was a rebel in so many ways( Judd's character) and the 2 merged into one character, Me.

What's so unique about this perfectly written film, and acted, is the fact that nothing's changed. High School can be traumatic, boring, stressful and at that age, we are still trying to discover which character are we, really?

The cheerleader prom queen was never my goal, and I wasn't exactly athletic, but I was smart and could've done well, but I hated school and wanted to attend college not HS..what a waste, as I'd been reading 12th grade level since 3rd grade, already knew I wanted to pursue psychology and was impatient. But being weird myself, I didn't fit in with the cliches..didn't desire to. I wrote music, stories and knew I'd be an author one day, and a psychologist, so let me please get on with it.

I loved how each character saw a little of each in themselves, and learned that one Saturday, we aren't as much different as we are the same. Not judging each other is a vital lesson because there's a huge chance, you will be very wrong.

This movie will never be outdated, because generation after generation, we all are these characters, we all knew these characters, and every generation goes through these self esteem issues, deciding who self is and decisions to be included in the cloning like everyone else or be the courageous one, and just be true to self. Pressure from parents is still real, as is dysfunctional families..and how it effects youth is real. This movie encounters all those themes in one Saturday in detention.

If you've never seen it, you better get going and see it..you will thank me later 😎

PS..I had crushes on the bad boys!

  • John Hughes best, hands down. Now it might seem pretty trope-y, but The Breakfast Club did work to create some of these tropes in the first place. A worthy film in the classic '80s oeuvre.

Synopsis

After receiving detention, a group of five high-school students bonds as they realize they have quite a bit in common despite being from different friend groups. Despite being over 35 years old, The Breakfast Club still stands as one of the quintessential movies of the ‘80s and one of director John Hughes standout films.
