  • It's ok if you don't agree, the fact is, Eternals is a great movie!

The cinematography alone is something to behold, and the film contains some of the most beautiful and exciting action shots in the MCU. It also features an array of incredibly talented actors and a plot that is dripping with intrigue before an incredible twist is delivered on a silver platter.

The movie is one of the most unique offerings from Marvel Studios in years, and it deserves a watch before being written off.

  • Eternals was built up to be the first big MCU movie post-Endgame, and while it has some good dialogue and fight scenes, it's brought down by a largely boring cast, an underdeveloped conflict, and an overall tone and aesthetic that leaves things far too humorless and dry from start to finish. It's far too easy to understand why Eternals was the MCU's first genuine failure in years, and the fact that no other story has ever touched upon the ramifications of its ending perfectly sells how much it's to everyone's benefit to ignore it.

  • As a comic fan, I know more than most that Eternals is an incredibly difficult property to introduce to new fans, and the movie adaptation stumbles in predictable ways. The bulk of the film sees the heroes getting the band back together, but with characters who are millennia old, a two and a half hour movie isn't enough for the characters and their connections to feel real or lived in. The characters of Eternals enter the story as strangers to the audience, and despite getting more than 120 minutes to introduce themselves, that's ultimately also how they leave.

  • Choosing to create a cast of all-new characters who no one knew anything about was definitely a bold choice considering the legacy of the MCU, but it works well in the Eternals, because everyone has such great chemistry with each other and they all play their roles very well.

Eternals Review: Marvel's Phase 4 Experiment Is A Mostly Unique MCU Movie

While Eternals has most of the benchmarks of a Marvel movie, Zhao's sprawling superhero epic is unlike anything the MCU has produced before.
