Having done Lion Hamlet to such acclaim, Disney tries out Lion Romeo and Juliet. It can't hope to be as spectacular as the original, but Kiara and Kovu are great main characters, and the songs are genuine earworms. I belt out "Deception, disgrace! Evil as plain as the scar on his face" every few weeks, and it seems that I just always will.

The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride doesn't have the same stellar animation or quality writing as the first film, but it does a good job of expanding on the series and capturing the heart of what made it work through a likable cast of old and new characters. The straight-to-DVD era of Disney films are understandably divisive, but Simba's Pride is definitely one of the rare gems to come out of that era.
