I love this movie and completely understand why it's considered a classic. The Shining is terrifying and thrilling. It fully lived up to expectations, and the actors knocked it out of the ballpark. I'm only removing half a star because of the way Shelley Duvall was treated.

Actually felt let down after watching this for the first time. I guess I had built up my hype for this so long that it couldn't possibly live up to it. That's on me. Just didn't find this as thrilling or scary as I wanted it to be. Has some interesting ideas to comb through but doesn't leave a lasting impact for me personally.

Another timeless classic where they didn't have to use blood and gore to make it happen!

A horror classic for a reason, The Shining stands the test of the time and is still just as terrifying today as when it first came out. Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrence scarily well, delivering a performance that will uncomfortably stick with you long after the credits roll.

Stephen King hates this movie and he is wrong. That said, it's one of those great films that inspired so many films after it that watching it in the modern day can feel underwhelming. You've seen this referenced and parodied so many times that you've almost seen the movie even if you've never watched. It's important film history, but can feel old to younger viewers.
