Synopsis
The Simpsons is a long-running animated TV series created by Matt Groening that satirically follows a working-class family in the misfit city of Springfield. Homer, a bit of a schmoe who works at a nuclear power plant, is the provider for his family, while his wife, Marge, tries to keep sanity and reason in the house to the best of her ability. Bart is a born troublemaker, and Lisa is his super-intelligent sister who finds herself surrounded by people who can't understand her. Finally, Maggie is the mysterious baby who acts as a deus ex machina when the series calls for it. The show puts the family in several wild situations while constantly tackling socio-political and pop-culture topics set within their world, providing an often sharp critique of the subjects covered in each episode. This series first premiered in 1989 and has been a staple of Fox's programming schedule ever since!

A 30-year-old institution like The Simpsons is of course not always going to be perfect. But those first ~10 seasons are classic for a reason, and anyone who doesn't understand why the modern cartoon still exists should revisit them. Not only did some of the best comedy writers of a generation start the show, some of the best comedy writers of the next generation graduated out of it. Without The Simpsons, there would be no Bob's Burgers, Great North, Bojack Horseman, or Tuca & Bertie. We also wouldn't have Family Guy, though, so you have to take the good with the bad.

I've always loved the Simpsons since the very first episode. Treehouse of horrors have been a bonus for the show. I love them all.

#NX2054840Threads236Reviews237Ratings184PostsFollowing0Stories0Topics0Authors0sThe Simpsons is one of the most iconic shows of all time thanks to its great social commentary and perfect balance of comedy and heart, and while its output in the 2000s and 2010s had a major drop in quality, recent years have been far more consistent with delivering good episodes more often than not. It's hard to wholeheartedly recommend The Simpsons as it is in modern-day, but at the very least, someone can still watch the first dozen or so seasons for some of the greatest comedy to ever come out of an animated series.

At its height, the Simpsons was of such unbelievably high quality that it can be forgiven an eternity of poor follow-up seasons. Empathetic, literate, observant of its time but 'about' enduring human foibles, it's easily the best sitcom of all time, partly because animation allowed it to reinvent its entire world whenever needed.

While this series has had its highs and lows, the impact it had, and continues to have, is hard to overestimate. This impact stems from the combination of intelligent writing, a wide range of witty humour from visual gags to spontaneous one-liners, high-quality voice acting and creative animation to make a series truly worthy of recognition and praise.
People like to discuss how the show's quality declined and sometimes that it "died", usually somewhere around the start of this century.
For me personally, this decline was much slower than people claim. There was a slight lull around the movie (which makes sense since both were worked on simultaneously). It improves a little around Season 19-21, stays largely static until Season 28 or so, perks up a bit at 29 but drops to a low at Season 30.
However, Seasons 31 and 32 would improve on it and the show, as of Season 33, has been enjoying a "Silver Age". Is it as good as the first 10 seasons or so? No, of course not, as the term I used implies. However, I would recommend anyone who stopped watching many years ago to give Seasons 33-35 a go at least.
For what it's worth, this is just my opinion and fellow fans will disagree with me. That's perhaps the best aspect of this fanbase, it shows how this series can unify people from pretty much every background.

The comedy is hilarious and stands the test of time and few other animated cartoons enjoy the legacy and acclaim The Simpsons does.

The wear of time can be seen and heard, but The Simpsons feels like tradition at this point, it's constant, it's widespread, and known by many. And this is down to people having spent decades watching them, ing it onto their children, and so many cultural references. While it can be guilty of cheap tricks to pull in viewers, the characters people have grown fond of will always bring viewers back, be their struggles relatable or too silly to turn away from, and its clear by recent seasons becoming more experimental that the series is still trying to surprise viewers, even to this day.

I'VE Been watching it since it was a few minutes on the Tracy show,I Never missed it and then When it Took over off with it's own time in Sundays and Fox,then reruns,I Saw them every day at 4 PM after school with My Family and Friends, THANKS SO MUCH,WE LOVE YOU SIMPSONS

Here is what I have to say on The Simpsons The Simpsons should no longer have the opportunity to stop because over the years I am a huge fan of The Simpsons and there should be more seasons and episodes and the reason why is because what if Bart had that special guy he really loves and gets married we all know Bart is gay and he would probably be exactly like what he likes and it would be nice to see barts gay lover on the New Simpsons with Bart all grown as an adult and Marge with Lilac blue hair long and cut buy her neck and homer with grey hair and Maggie and Lisa as blonde curls in Thier hair Maggie would be a lawyer and Lisa as a teachers presecedent in all the new 2025 series on fox
