WHERE TO WATCH

  • A metatextual comedy where Nic Cage plays "Nick Cage," talks to a CGI younger version of himself, and crafts a winning bromance with Pedro Pascal. Falls apart a bit in the last act when it has to drop everything and be an action film, but an entertaining ride until then.

  • Unbearable Weight isn't a complex movie, it does exactly what it needs to. Take two of the most beloved actors on the planet, allow Cage to do his thing, and have fun with it. It's a fun comedy with a surprising amount f depth and love for filmmaking as an art, and is definitely a movie I will revisit more in the future.

  • As a metafictional of the life of Nicolas Cage, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a hilarious film from start to finish that also does a great job of humanizing Cage as a character and, most importantly, as a real-life person. It doesn't have the tightest narrative a film like it needed, but overall, it's a fun watch, even for anyone who might not know much about Cage as an actor or a person.

Synopsis

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent tells the story of a fictionalized version of actor Nicolas Cage when he unwittingly becomes entangled with a criminal cartel. On the brink of bankruptcy, Cage (played by himself) is made an offer he can't refuse: $1 million to appear at the birthday party of a wealthy fan named Javi (Pedro Pascal). However, Cage's trip puts him in the middle of a CIA investigation into Javi, and he finds himself caught between his new friend and a whole host of very dangerous people.
