From Dusk Till Dawn.

The two levels in Tarantino’s universe are the “real world” (the Vega brothers (Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs and Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction), as long as they’re part of the same level. It’s tricky, yes, and Tarantino makes and breaks the rules as he pleases, and there might be a character that connects two movies from different levels.

Fans have pointed out a small but important detail in Kill Bill Vol. 2 that could hold a connection with a character from Django Unchained, making way for a popular theory.

The Character That Connects Kill Bill and Django Unchained

Kill Bill Vol 2 Paula Schultz

In Tarantino fashion, both Kill Bill movies are divided in chapters, and Kill Bill Vol. 2’s second chapter, titled “Chapter 7: The Lonely Grave of Paula Schultz”, is the one that holds a potential connection with Django Unchained. In it, Budd buries Beatrix alive at a local Texan cemetery, specifically in the empty grave of Paula Schultz. The dates on the tombstone (1823-1898), along with the last name Schultz, have made many fans turn their heads to Django Unchained’s Dr. King Schultz.

Schultz was a dentist-turned-bounty hunter who freed Django and helped him rescue his wife, and died during a shootout at Calvin Candie’s house. His wife presumably died of an unknown cause, but some fans believe that wasn’t true and he altered the story because she ran away, but never changed her last name. As such, the grave in Kill Bill Vol. 2 was that of Dr. Schultz’s wife, who had a much longer life than King. Though the name of Paula Schultz is a reference to the 1968 movie The Wicked Dreams of Paula Schultz, many fans are convinced that the similarities between the dates and the last name are not a coincidence, and Tarantino instead turned it into a fun Easter egg. Of course, why the grave was empty is a mystery, though (sadly) it’s not uncommon for really old graves to be emptied at some point.
