Everything That Was Revealed

Mark Ruffalo in Task

Mare of Easttown was especially lauded for its authentic depiction of the Pennsylvania region, capturing everything from the local accents to set design with precision. It appears that Task, set in the working-class suburbs outside of Philadelphia, features the same accurate portrayal of its setting. Creator Brad Ingelsby, who is from the area, pays close attention to detail, driven by a strong sense of duty to portray his hometown authentically. To ensure accuracy on Task, he enlisted several technical advisers, including a former FBI agent, the chief of police from Easttown Township, and a former biker gang member.

While Mare of Easttown mostly focused on its titular character, following both her personal and professional struggles, Task appears to be a true two-hander. While it does center on Mark Ruffalo's FBI agent investigating the drug-house robberies, the story also focuses on the unsuspecting family man and small-town garbage collector behind the heists, Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey), who is also juggling the chaos of his fractured family life. Task follows both men's troubled pasts and personal grief as their paths inevitably collide.

It Looks Like A Worthy Follow-Up To Mare of Easttown

Mark Ruffalo in Task

Though many might have been more interested in seeing season 2, Task looks like a worthy follow-up. It features the same accurate portrayal of its setting, a small town outside Philadelphia, while also following a member of law enforcement with a troubled past dealing with both their personal and professional lives. Task appears to have the same authenticity and complexity that made Mare so compelling.

Task is scheduled to premiere on HBO and Max in 2025.
