A Warner Bros. studio exec has weighed in on the future of Ted Lasso season 4 had been renewed, with several of the core cast confirmed as returning for the season.

In an interview with Deadline, Channing Dungey has opened up on the chances of extending Ted Lasso beyond four seasons. Dungey spoke about the fact that Warner Bros. has heard the pitch for the next season of Ted Lasso, but nothing is confirmed beyond that, debunking reports of hearing a three-season pitch from Jason Sudeikis. However, she did assure fans that there will be plenty of opportunity to extend and expand the show beyond that point. Check out Dungey's comments on the matter below:

We’ve heard the pitch for this next season, for Season 4. Is there the opportunity for the story to continue after that? Absolutely. Have I heard a whole three-season pitch? Not yet.

What This Means For The Future Of Ted Lasso

The Series Could Easily Run Several More Seasons

Ted Lasso returning for another season will feel a little bittersweet to some audiences, as many believed the show had reached its natural conclusion. However, Sudeikis and co-creators Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly will most likely have an idea in mind for where they wish to take the series. There are plenty of Ted Lasso storylines that need to be resolved with season 4, and the fact that Sudekis is rumored to have planned a new three-season arc means the series could span up to six seasons.

It feels like the success of season 4 is pretty much guaranteed at this point, and Dungey's comments suggest she is keen to explore further seasons of Ted Lasso in the future.

Ted Lasso is a show that always excelled when dealing with interpersonal relationships that helped shape the story. And whilst there are some Ted Lasso characters that need more development in season 4, it is likely that the new season will lean heavily on already established relationships, whilst looking to further their experiences, and bring in new characters to give things a shake up.

Ultimately, one of the bigger deciding factors on whether Ted Lasso will continue beyond season 4, though, is Sudeikis' ongoing interest in the show. Apart from the rumored three-season plan, a large part of the uncertainty over whether the show would return in the first place was Sudeikis' own hesitance to do so, having felt like it had reached a fitting conclusion. With season 4 moving ahead because of him, it's possible his creative juices are flowing once again to keep the show going.
