Ted Lasso season 3 cut some important scenes for Nate (Nick Mohammed) which ended up hurting his character in the long run. This decision was one of the many season 3 choices that Ted Lasso audiences took issue with. At the end of Ted Lasso season 2, Nate leaves Richmond and goes to West Ham, a decision that left a multitude of interesting possibilities open for his character. However, Ted Lasso season 3 didn't explore Nate's arc properly as he started to regret his big decision.

In an interview with big season 3 Nate scenes were cut. When asked about why the series didn't include a scene where Nate witnessed Rupert Manion's (Anthony Head) downfall, Mohammed answered, "It's not important because the show isn't about revenge. It's about doing the right thing. It's a lot more positive and optimistic." With Ted Lasso's lighthearted tone, it does make sense to focus on the positive and not make Nate's story about revenge. Nevertheless, Rupert's involvement in Nate's arc was important and the lack of closure between the two characters was particularly unsatisfying.

Nate's Redemption In Ted Lasso Season 3 Needed A Look At His Full Journey

By cutting the scenes in Nate's redemption arc where he witnesses Rupert's downfall, Ted Lasso season 3 didn't give audiences the full picture. Nate, arguably, goes through the most changes throughout Ted Lasso. He starts off as an innocent kitman and eventually betrays Ted Lasso's trust. Ted Lasso season 3 sees Nate swinging back to his old ways with the guidance of his romantic relationship with Jade (Edyta Budnik). While Jade played a big part in Nate's change, their romance didn't provide viewers with a look at Nate's full journey.

While Nate quitting West Ham is a big story beat, he isn't shown standing up to Rupert. Then, in addition to losing Nate, Rupert damages his own reputation by losing his temper at a game and assaulting his head coach. Since Rupert played such a big role in Nate's character transformation, it seems like a waste to not include a scene where Nate sees how far Rupert has fallen. To remedy this, Ted Lasso should've shown how Nate reacted to Rupert's tantrum.

Why Rupert's Downfall Was So Important To Nate's Ted Lasso Season 3 Story

Since Rupert played a huge role in Nate's character arc, Nate witnessing Rupert's downfall would have helped his realization that he wasn't meant for West Ham. The show pushes the assumption that Nate got tired of Rupert's manipulation, but leaving out such a significant piece of Nate's journey hurt his redemption arc in the long run. Additionally, Nate is a character who has been notoriously guilty of not being able to stand up for himself. To see him stand up directly to Rupert would have closed his arc nicely.

Nate's missing scenes were far from the only things wrong with Ted Lasso season 3. However, with Nate being a central character in the series, some of the other issues could've been overlooked if only Nate's arc had reached a satisfying conclusion. While Ted Lasso's future is uncertain, there is still hope that the spirit of the series will continue with a spinoff that will give a more satisfying conclusion for the characters, including Nate.
