Amber Portwood’s father of her child, Andrew Glennon.
Portwood first started her Teen Mom career back in 2009 when 16 and Pregnant first aired. She then became a cast member on the follow-up show, Teen Mom. Amber first had trouble with the law when MTV aired footage of her abusing her then-fiancé, Gary Shirley, back in 2009. The State of Indiana, along with Child Protective Services, ran a follow-up investigation, finding large amounts of marijuana and crack cocaine inside her home. After an extensive investigation, Portwood was charged with three counts of domestic violence. In 2011, Portwood was arrested again for possession of a controlled substance. This led to Amber serving a five-year prison sentence, though she was released early due to good behavior.
On July 5, 2019, Portwood was arrested for attacking her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, with a machete. According to TMZ, Amber is already in MTV’s bad books due to her previous arrests. If Portwood is convicted of her current charges, it is almost positive that she will lose her job with MTV as one of the Teen Mom OGs. The main issue that MTV and fans seem to be struggling with is not only threatening her boyfriend, but the fact that there was a child involved, as Portwood had "struck a door with Glennon holding their infant son on the other side."
MTV has stated before that they do not agree with any of their cast being arrested and that they will allow the legal system to take control to deliver a verdict. As many die-hard fans know, MTV gave Portwood a slap on the wrist for her last charges as they stood by her through the trials, rehab, and jail time. However, this time may be the last time due to the severity of the charges.
If Amber Portwood is convicted of the charges she faces and is then fired, MTV has a vast amount of backup moms to choose from to replace her. When MTV fired Farrah Abraham, she was replaced quickly by Cheyenne Floyd. It seems as the Teen Mom stars continue to make bad decisions, they will continue to be replaced, as MTV is starting to adopt a more no-nonsense type of mentality with their stars to maintain a good image for the network. Teen Mom OG is currently airing all of the drama that happened between Portwood and Glennon on the current season, where fans can see the drama that led up to the alleged domestic violence.
Teen Mom OG airs on Mondays at 8pm EST on MTV.
