Full disclaimer: the return of the Nightwing romance—more specifically, the Starfire and Robin romance—isn’t part of mainstream continuity. Instead, it’s playing out in the Teen Titans GO! Universe in a brand-new comic series. But despite that, it’s a blast to see this iconic romance back in the spotlight, especially with the over-the-top hilarity that only Teen Titans GO! can deliver.

In their effort to become relevant enough for DC to bring back their comic series, the Teen Titans decide to experiment with different genres, including a "pulse-pounding action" style that deviates from their usual Teen Titans GO! art. To prove they’re worthy of a comic revival, the team faces off against Raven’s demonic father, Trigon. However, during this epic battle, Robin gets distracted by Starfire being an absolute badass and starts daydreaming about her, making his crush obvious.

In his internal monologue, Robin reflects, "Starfire is so brave! If only I could tell her how I feel! But I dare not, as long as we come from cultures as distant from each other as..." This moment highlights how the series is fully embracing Robin’s angsty, puppy-dog love for Starfire. While mainstream continuity has focused on the relationship between Batgirl and Nightwing for years, it’s refreshing to see a series that shifts the focus to Kori and Dick, bringing some much-needed humor and lightheartedness to their dynamic.

While Robin’s crush on Starfire is only briefly highlighted in this issue, it’s clear that his growing feelings and absurd attempts to win her over will take center stage in issue #3. The synopsis teases, “Inspired by way too many sitcoms, when Robin gets caught trying to plan a surprise party for Starfire's birthday, he invents a new alias — Texas Robin, his identical twin cousin — to explain who the party is for.”
