As the famous teams from DC, comprising a young and changeable host of superheroes capable of going toe-to-toe with DC's most threatening supervillains alongside their elder counterparts, the Justice League. Like the Justice League, the team commonly includes some of DC's most recognizable characters, including Dick Grayson's Nightwing and Victor Stone's Cyborg.

The most recent iteration of the Teen Titans in live-action was as part of the Arrowverse's Titans. This acclaimed series was a grittier take on the titular team, a DCU is shaping up to be a more colorful take on DC's stories and characters, and while the DCU's interpretation of the team remains to be seen, James Gunn's proven proficiency with team-ups is a positive sign for their cinematic future.

Teen Titans Is The First DCU Superhero Team

While other superhero teams could emerge as secondary characters in earlier DCU projects, the Teen Titans are the first to star in their own movie. This will help to put distance between the DCU and its predecessor, the DCEU, as a Justice League movie does not yet appear on the DCU's release slate. Instead, the Teen Titans movie will focus on the much younger team, further cementing the notion that the DCU will take place in a world that has housed superheroes for some time.

The Bat Family, meanwhile, is slated to appear in the DCU's The Brave and the Bold as per comments made by DC Studios co-CEO, Peter Safran - though it is still unclear how large of a role the extended family will play in the movie's plot. The Authority is set to star a team of decidedly less virtuous antiheroes that fill a similar role to the Suicide Squad. With that in mind, the DCU's Teen Titans look to be the first genuine superhero team-up of the cinematic franchise.

Who Could Be In The Teen Titans Team In The DCU

In the absence of a confirmed solo outing in the DCU, the Teen Titans project may be where Maridueña reprises his role.

The Teen Titans have undergone various iterations throughout their tenure. The founding include Wally West/Kid Flash, Dick Grayson/Robin, and Garth/Aqualad. The fact that Superman will take place with various heroes already established and that The Brave and the Bold will depict an older Bruce Wayne teaming up with his son, Damian, implies that the DCU will not necessarily portray the earliest version of the team. The most commonly depicted versions of the team include Grayson, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy in the lineup, who are also subjected to the most fan casts.

Another possible addition is Blue Beetle. James Gunn confirmed that Xolo Maridueña's Jamie Reyes will return to the DCU following a critically acclaimed yet financially disappointing debut in the DCEU's Blue Beetle. In the absence of a confirmed solo outing in the DCU, the Teen Titans project may be where Maridueña reprises his role. The Bat Family appearing in The Brave and the Bold without Dick Grayson as Robin also suggests that he will be a part of the Teen Titans in the guise of Nightwing instead of Robin.

Teen Titans' Potential Story After Batman: The Brave & The Bold

Without confirmation of what the plot of The Brave and the Bold entails it is difficult to ascertain the potential story for the Teen Titans movie. The fact that The Brave and the Bold will feature an older Batman without Grayson as his sidekick, however, suggests that Teen Titans is unlikely to be an origin story for the team. As confirmed story details for other DCU movies suggest, this will instead show them part-way through their tenure.

The Brave and the Bold comic series featured the founding of the Teen Titans by Nightwing, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl.

Given that this appears to be the first superhero team of the DCU, the story could serve to launch those of several other as-yet-unannounced DC characters. Given the Titans are close allies with the Justice League, with some being sidekicks to their Justice League counterparts, this movie could serve as a springboard to reveal other iconic DC characters, such as Wonder Woman, whose DCU movie is to be confirmed. Until more details emerge about the DCU, however, any theories on the specific story of Teen Titans are pure speculation.
