On Teen Wolf, fans got the pleasure of seeing many romances develop on-screen. Some of them proved to be a huge success with the fans and some of them just about missed the mark. It all depended on how the fans felt about the characters and the chemistry.
However, you have to wonder if the writers were ever disappointed that some romances didn't get a great reaction from fans as, on paper, they should have worked. Keep reading to discover what 5 couples were perfect for each other (& 5 that didn't make sense).
Perfect: Hayden & Liam
Although Hayden (Victoria Morales) and Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) got mixed reviews with the fans, they are actually one couple that makes sense. When it came to this romance, the writers went down the "enemy-turned-lover" route. Hayden and Liam had a connection pre-existing the series, which showed that the teens grew up together.
If Hayden didn't leave in the second half of season 6, the couple would have remained together till the end. With the couple being composed of two werewolves, loyalty and devotion are two aspects that are ingrained into their mindsets. There is also the belief that werewolves mate for life and with the way these two acted, it proves to be true.
Not Perfect: Malia & Scott
Scott (Tyler Posey) and Malia (Shelley Hennig) should work, but there was just something missing from the pairing. Many fans have said that his pairing felt forced and it has proven to be true. It looked as if the writers had paired Scott and Malia because they were the only two single people left in Beacon Hills.
Where Stydia and Scallison had a lot of development, Scott and Malia's was rushed. Before they engaged in a romance, they had hardly any interactions. Malia was either involved with Stiles or the Desert Wolf, and Scott was concerned with keeping the pack together. This romance developed too quick and blossomed too late.
Perfect: Mason & Corey
Mason (Khylin Rambo) and Corey (Michael Johnston) were one of the sweetest and most underrated romances in the show. Introduced with the second wave of characters, Mason and Corey's was one of the same-sex relationships that played a significant role in the show.
The writers tried once more with the supernatural/human pairing but made an exception with this romance. Even though they began in rival packs, the couple showed you could overcome the odds if you work hard at it. Mason and Corey refused to let anything get between them, which is why they outlasted all the other human/supernatural pairings. It was nice to see a forbidden romance not end in tragedy.
Not Perfect: Allison & Isaac
Both Allison (Crystal Reed) and Isaac (Daniel Sharman) were two fan favorites, who fans didn't mind together. They did have some cute moments. However, they wouldn't have lasted in the long run for two reasons. For one, the whole werewolf/hunter dynamic had been done before and didn't work out because of her family.
The other reason, Isaac ended up being nothing but Allison's rebound. While there was a connection between them, nothing could compare to Allison’s feelings for Scott, which she reaffirmed before her death. So...the relationship was basically for nothing.
Perfect: Scott & Kira
Scott and Kira’s (Arden Cho) relationship had to be one of the most endearing romances you would have ever seen. For this relationship, the writers went down the ‘mysterious newcomer’ storyline, with Scott being drawn to the kitsune immediately.
On paper, Scott and Kira worked because they had a lot in common. They were both outsiders who struggled to come to with their supernatural selves. It was also the only relationship to have no drama or tension, which was quite refreshing to see. They would have lasted a long time if Kira didn't have to leave in season 5.
Not Perfect: Lydia & Jackson
Out of all the romances on Teen Wolf, this had to be the most toxic. At the beginning of the season, not many people liked Lydia (Holland Roden) and Jackson (Colton Haynes). When fans were first introduced to the pairing, it was easy to see how they fit the stereotypical jock and mean girl.
However, fans witnessed over time that Lydia genuinely cared about Jackson and would do anything to make him happy. Even if it meant hiding her intelligence so he didn't feel insecure. Jackson never really lost the jerk-jock stereotype and would continue to mistreat Lydia until they broke up at the end of season 2. She was better off without him in the end.
Perfect: Scott & Allison
Of course, our very own Romeo and Juliet would make the list. Whether fans enjoyed the pairing or not, there is no denying that Allison and Scott's romance was one for the ages. The writers hit a gold mine when they came up with the forbidden love story between the hunter and the werewolf.
It was seen to be a much more interesting story, with Scott and Allison trying to prevent her family from finding out. Yet, no matter how intense or powerful it was, the couple was destined for tragedy. Although Allison and Scott broke up, the tether between the two remained as she confessed her feelings for the Alpha wolf before she died. To this day, fans can't get over the fact that they never got a chance to reunite.
Not Perfect: Danny & Ethan
Deep down, everybody knew that this relationship wasn't going to go the distance. There were too many obstacles in the way. For instance, Danny (Keahu Kahuanui) was human and Ethan (Charlie Carver) was a werewolf. Danny also had limited screen time since he was only in a ing role and Ethan had the potential to be more.
There was potential that this relationship could have worked out itself out since Danny revealed he knew about Ethan's supernatural self. Yet, the writers made this the main factor that broke the camel's back as Danny expressed he was uncomfortable with dating a werewolf. It took a whole season for them to realize what took everyone five seconds.
Perfect: Stiles & Lydia
The Teen Wolf writers played the long game with Stiles (Dylan O'Brien) and Lydia. Yet, the pay-off was worth the wait (even if it was a little rushed in season 6). With this couple, the writers went down the "nerd/popular mean girl" route which eventually changed into two best friends falling in love.
Everyone knew this couple was inevitable and would probably the one relationship that was stable enough to survive outside of high school. After the tragedy they had been put through, Stiles and Lydia deserved to have their happy ending.
Not Perfect: Matt & Allison
Out of all the relationships on the show, this is the one that no one would ever ship. When Matt (Stephen Sean Ford) was first introduced to the series in season 2, alarm bells were rung as they saw the photographer taking pictures of Allison at the funeral. Fans soon realized he had an unnatural obsession with the hunter as they saw numerous photos of her on his camera.
Allison was unaware of his true nature and even went on a "date" with him. However, any hope of a romance was severed when she realized what a stalker he was. Matt was also revealed to be the Kanima master and ended up going on the "if I can't have you, no one else will" rant before he was killed by Gerard. Safe to say, Allison didn't lose sleep over him.
