Stiles Stilinski isn't the only character with a sense of humor in the funniest characters in Teen Wolf.
With much of his humor being unintentional, fans can always expect a laugh when he shows up onscreen. Coach Finstock isn't the best role model for his students, but his chaotic energy and absurd statements make him an essential part of the series.
When Coach Threatens To Punch Stiles
Not knowing the circumstances under which Stiles pulled the fire alarm, Coach attempts to discipline him. It's understandable why he thinks Stiles should be reprimanded, but the way he goes about it is particularly chaotic. He yanks Stiles outside by his ear and threatens to punch him if he were four years younger.
This doesn't make sense, as Stiles points out. Unless Coach Finstock is younger than twenty-two years old, he still wouldn't be a high school student. Like many of his one-liners, there's no logic or reason behind the statement.
Every Time Coach Coaches A Game
He may be a side character, but Coach Finstock has major main character energy in Teen Wolf. No one on the show matches his intensity, especially when it comes to lacrosse. While the point of the game is to win, Coach takes things a little too far.
He yells insults at the other team, screams to see a birth certificate, and even puts Danny back in the game when he's clearly concussed. Everyone has something they care about above all else, and for Coach Finstock, that's dominating on the lacrosse field.
When Coach Loses His Temper On The Bus
Season 3 Episode 5, "Frayed," remains one of the funniest episodes of Teen Wolf. Coach Finstock is already a lot to handle on the lacrosse field, but he's even more tumultuous trapped on a tiny bus and surrounded by impatient teenagers.
With Scott bleeding out from a werewolf-related incident, Stiles attempts to get him to pull over at a rest stop. Of course, Coach Finstock doesn't care about what Stiles wants. He spends the trip blowing his whistle, screaming at the top of his lungs, and he even yells "you suck!" at a carsick kid who vomits.
When Coach Likes Being Called "Cupcake"
In a parent/teacher meeting with Sheriff Stilinski, Coach Finstock makes fun of Stiles's name. He has no problem being blunt with others, as he proves when he flat-out asks the Sheriff about it. "You named your kid Stiles Stilinski?" isn't something most teachers would or should feel comfortable saying to a parent.
It isn't until Teen Wolf Season 6 that Stiles's real name is revealed to be Miecyslaw, and the Sheriff its that "Stiles" is just what his son likes to be called. "I like to be called 'cupcake,'" also isn't the most appropriate response on Coach Finstock's end.
Every Time Coach Blames Greenberg
Greenberg's identity is just one of many questions that should be answered in the Teen Wolf movie. Although fans never see his face, he's a crucial member of the lacrosse team. Greenberg becomes Coach Finstock's scapegoat, as he's blamed for everything that goes wrong.
The irony is that, from what viewers can tell, Greenberg is actually a pretty good guy. He tries to participate in class, help the team, and even gets Coach Finstock a birthday present. Coach's hatred for the student is just one more nonsensical aspect of his character.
When Coach Bets Against Scott And Stiles
A good coach believes in their students. And then there's Coach Finstock, who actively roots against them. Malia bets five dollars on Scott and Stiles, and he jumps at the chance to take her up on it. During practice, he seems to care more about his own entertainment than his team's success.
What's particularly hilarious is how quickly Coach Finstock changes his tune. The moment Scott and Stiles start to improve, he claims that the two are like sons to him, which contradicts the insults he was shouting at them only moments before.
When Coach Gets Shot With An Arrow
Coach Finstock wields his words as a weapon, but he doesn't have the same level of fighting skills as the other Teen Wolf characters. Given that he's both human and unaware of the supernatural, it's no surprise that he's caught off guard after being shot with an arrow.
His reaction is more comical than harrowing, as Coach finds himself in a frenzy. He mumbles, "crap," when the arrow first hits him, but eventually starts screaming, "I'm going to die!" at the top of his lungs. The McCall Pack may be used to these types of situations, but the other students in the class are not.
When Coach Smashes His Mug
It's hard to fault him for being suspicious on Mischief Night, but Coach Finstock has a way of taking things to the extreme. After his office is booby-trapped, he becomes convinced that the gift on his desk is another prank by the high schoolers.
To show his class he's not falling for it, Coach smashes the gift. However, it turns out to be a "#1 Coach" mug from Greenberg. Given how much Coach Finstock can't seem to stand the faceless student, he probably would've destroyed the gift anyways.
When Coach Compares Scott To His Dead Grandmother
Coach Finstock and Scott are an Teen Wolf. Coach is great at dishing out insults, and Scott is one of the only people who's patient enough to take them. Nothing he ever says is personal, as many of his jabs are completely unrelated to the situation at hand.
However, after becoming a werewolf, it takes time for Scott to regain control of his emotions. Coach Finstock tells Scott he's slower than the corpse of his dead grandmother, and it almost causes him to shift on the field in broad daylight.
When Coach Gives The Speech From "Independence Day"
Melissa McCall speaks for the audience when she expresses her confusion over Coach's pep talk. Rather than saying something original, he ionately recites the speech from Independence Day.
The science-fiction movie is unrelated to lacrosse, so it's a bit puzzling why Coach finds it so fitting. However, the team matches his energy. Coach Finstock gets so riled up, that it actually motivates his students. A sports speech would be more fitting, but Coach can make anything work with the right attitude.
