For the first three seasons of MTV’s Allison’s Teen Wolf death in Scott’s arms after she sacrificed herself to the Oni to save him and their friends.
While the death of a beloved main character was shocking, the send-off was prompted by Reed’s desire to leave the show to do other projects. The actress then came back to Teen Wolf season 5 as a guest star, but not as a resurrected Allison. Instead, she played Allison’s ancestor and the first Argent family hunter, Marie-Jeanne Valet, who defeated The Beast of Gévaudan in the 18th century. At the time when she was offered her guest role, Reed itted (via before Teen Wolf was canceled in season 7 was a way to still honor the character she had embodied for three seasons and show her gratitude to the fans.
Why Crystal Reed Ultimately Decided To Return For Teen Wolf Season 5
When executive producer Jeff Davis concluded Marie-Jeann’s description with “'And that's where the Argents begin,’” that was Reed’s deciding factor. “My heart sank,” she said. “[A] big bone of contention was that [Allison] never had a funeral. It's almost like the closing of a casket would be the end of her story and I wanted to be able to give that to fans.” While not Allison’s Teen Wolf return that audiences would’ve liked, Reed made sure to also include nostalgic parallels, including how Marie-Jeanne handled the crossbow and the way she walked and gestured like Allison.
Along with preserving Allison’s memory, there was the generational connection that it was her ancestor that fought the beast that Allison’s love was fighting in the present. That was another reason Reed accepted, even though Davis had offered her the role without a script. Reed said (via EW), “[I]t made complete sense to me why I should do it and what he’s trying to do and how beautiful it was that he intertwined everything together.”
Playing Marie-Jeanne Allowed Allison's Movie Return To Be Better
For those who were not satisfied with Reed’s one-episode stint, her Allison character will return in Teen Wolf: The Movie. In hindsight, the decision to not have Allison return in her resurrected form while the series aired was a good idea as it raises the anticipation for her appearance in the Paramount+ movie. The released trailers suggest that Allison is the villain, which raises a number of questions as she had died a noble hero. In the clip released at the New York Comic Con, Allison is hunting down Derek with a knife and crossbow. It's a shocking revelation for longtime fans of the show. Audiences will hopefully get these questions answered when the Teen Wolf movie hits theaters.
