Allison, a much-loved character of the teen drama show Allison's return in Teen Wolf: The Movie seems particularly surprising, as she's supposed to be dead.
The return of the dead was a consistent theme throughout the Teen Wolf series. Though it follows this general trend, the implication that Allison is the villain is juxtaposed to her previous on-screen appearances now over a decade prior. Allison was always a complicated character in the series since she had split loyalties between her supernatural boyfriend, Scott McCall, and her family of werewolf catchers. Inevitably, such a rift caused tension in their relationship, but her death at the end of season 3 was undoubtedly heartbreaking.
However, in the trailer released just after Comic-Con for Teen Wolf: The Movie, Allison's storyline becomes even more complicated as she seems to feature as the main antagonist. Clips of the series' main antagonists are featured throughout the trailer released during Comic-Con 2022, including The Oni. What was not expected was Allison's reveal at the end of the trailer. As Scott looks to be fighting against the storyline's main danger, the reveal of the last few minutes suggests Allison's reincarnated self was responsible for the villainous story arc. She walks away from a burning car just as Scott ominously exclaims, "She's back!"
Why Making Allison The Villain Would Be Perfect
The Teen Wolf series was known for blurring the lines between protagonists and antagonists. The Argent family's desire for supernatural blood was counterbalanced and complicated by Allison's love for Scott. Stiles' possession by Nogitsune was particularly harrowing, as the audience saw the degradation of one of the most beloved characters of the series. With old characters returning in Teen Wolf: The Movie, such a trend seems to be continuing. Coupled with Allison's complicated relationship with her family and the supernatural world at large, this makes her the perfect villain for the Teen Wolf movie. With a complex motivation behind her, what defines her turn to villainy will be an interesting plot.
Perhaps her "dark side" will stem from her revenge against The Oni or her resentment against the werewolves who killed her Aunt and her Mother, albeit indirectly. The crossover of characters in the series and movies is a new trend adopted by dramas aimed at more mature audiences such as season 3 death in Teen Wolf is yet to be seen, but the show was never afraid to cut against the grain. The same, it seems, could be said for the movie.
Teen Wolf: The Movie is set to be released in October 2022.
