MTV's Teen Wolf: The Movie will inevitably struggle to escape Stiles' (Dylan O'Brien) shadow, but with the inclusion of old characters like Jackson and Allison, it may survive. However, there is one returning character whose death is necessary.
Allison's death in Teen Wolf season 3 had the most significant impact on the show, and she should remain dead. It was a turning point in the show when Allison died; reviving her would diminish the character development that occurred because of her death. Not to mention, bringing back such a major character would require more than two hours to properly incorporate her back into the Teen Wolf universe. However, Allison returning for the movie is not an issue as long as she is dead by the film's conclusion, which shouldn't be a problem since it's been teased that Allison will be the Teen Wolf movie villain.
The Impact Of Allison's Death On The Teen Wolf Characters
When Allison died, it forever changed the lives of Scott's pack. However, the most impacted were Scott, Lydia, Stiles, and her father, Chris Argent. Scott was forced to be his own anchor. Lydia further embraced her powers in an attempt never to feel helpless again. Stiles dealt with serious guilt because he felt responsible since he was the one possessed by the nogitsune. Finally, Argent started following the new family motto Allison coined, "We protect those who cannot protect themselves." Everything changed when she died, and bringing her back as she was would cheapen the impact of that earned emotional growth. Though actress Crystal Reed returned to Teen Wolf season 5, it wasn't as Allison because, as she said, "Allison had such an amazing end to her life, I feel like bringing her back in any way might tarnish that beautiful story." It would be the same for the movie.
One Movie Isn't Enough Time To Work Allison Back Into The Teen Wolf Universe
Allison wasn't just any character; she was part of the original pack and the heart of the story. If she returns, she needs to be done justice. It would be thrilling to have her back, but it will raise a number of questions that one movie couldn't possibly answer. If Allison comes back to life, it will be necessary to explore how she fits into everyone's lives now, and it would have to be written in a way that doesn't undo others' character development. Teen Wolf: The Movie won't offer enough time to properly bring Allison back. That said, it is enough time to offer some much-needed closure.
The cast of Teen Wolf: The Movie revealed story updates at New York Comic Con, and Crystal Reed announced that Allison would be returning as "a version of herself" (via EW). The trailer also divulged that the Oni are back, so it's not a stretch to believe the nogitsune will be as well. Perhaps Reed will be playing a nogitsune-possessed version of Allison, but unlike Stiles, she won't survive. Allison's return could be used as an opportunity for closure as well because, like Reed said in 2016, "[A] big bone of contention was that [Allison] never had a funeral. It's almost like the closing of a casket would be the end of her story and I wanted to be able to give that to fans." There are many ways Teen Wolf: The Movie can go, but Allison's death is the best way to ensure her resurrection isn't a cheap attempt to please fans.
