MTV's Teen Wolf series finale may have felt rushed, but it offered a satisfying send-off to the McCall Pack after facing Gerard Argent and the Anuk-Ite. The Paramount+ film serves not just as a sequel narrative but also as a reunion of many of the show's beloved cast. However, aside from the established McCall Pack, the Teen Wolf movie also debuts a couple of new characters, including Eli — Derek Hale's 15-year-old werewolf son.

Teen Wolf: The Movie Sets Up Eli’s As The Next Alpha

Eli Hale In Teen Wolf Movie

Aside from being Derek's son, not much is known about Eli. That being said, while the young werewolf doesn't have any personal ties to Allison, the Teen Wolf Movie did a great job establishing the character, particularly concerning his relationship with his father. After struggling to turn, Eli is finally able to embrace his true form just before Derek's Teen Wolf movie death, laying the groundwork for his journey as the newest member of the McCall Pack. As the franchise moves forward, however, its primary storytelling needs to shift its focus to Eli, possibly becoming the next Alpha.

While Derek entrusted his son to Scott, effectively making him the newest member of the McCall Pack, it would be best if the future Teen Wolf project focused on Eli as he navigates his new life. Heavily involving Scott could distract from the young Hale's narrative. It would also be difficult logistically, considering that the current Alpha has already moved away from Beacon Hills. Scott and other of McCall's Pack can show up from time to time to provide some assistance, but the next best Teen Wolf storyline is Eli's werewolf journey.

Teen Wolf Needs To Move On From Scott McCall & His Pack

Scott, Lydia and Jackson in Teen Wolf: The Movie

Since the Teen Wolf movie is set so long after the series, Scott and the rest of the McCall Pack are now all grown up. Aside from not appropriately fitting the franchise's name anymore, the show's original cast are also busy with other roles. This would make it difficult for them to commit to their Teen Wolf roles if Paramount+ resurrects its long-form storytelling series, as the crammed Teen Wolf: The Movie shows it works better as a series. So to lay the groundwork for a sustainable franchise, it's best to shift its focus to a younger character in Eli.
