What are the chances of Teen Wolf: The Movie will be missing Stiles Stilinski.
The Paramount+ project is essentially a continuation of Scott and his Pack's story, but instead of being season 7, the story was reformatted to be a film instead. The core creative team from the MTV show is involved with the new endeavor with series creator Jeff Davis g a deal to spearhead what could be the start of a burgeoning franchise over at the streaming service. ing Posey is a string of familiar faces including Holland Roden as Lydia Martin, Colton Haynes as Jackson Whittemore, Linden Ashby as Sheriff Noah Stilinski, Dylan Sprayberry as Liam Dunbar, as well as, Tyler Hoechlin as Derek Hale. Meanwhile, Crystal Reed also returns Allison Argent despite her death in Teen Wolf season 3, and based on the movie's first trailer, it seems like she will be the Wolf Pack's next foe.
As exciting as it is to see most of Teen Wolf's core cast return for the revival, Stilinski's absence will undoubtedly be felt in the project. As Scott's best friend and an important member of his Wolf Pack, O'Brien's character is arguably as intrinsic to the MTV show's success as its titular character. Given this, it's curious how Teen Wolf: The Movie will fare without one of its lead players.
Why Dylan O'Brien Isn't Returning For The Teen Wolf Movie
When news first broke out that a Teen Wolf revival was in the works, there was a lot of excitement because there was an assumption that most of the show's core cast will return. Unfortunately, as details about the project emerge, it became clear that O'Brien wouldn't be involved in it until the actor himself confirmed it. According to him, while he would've loved to partake in the flick considering how much he adores his old castmates, Teen Wolf: The Movie's development "happened very fast." Because Teen Wolf’s ending left Stiles in such a great place O’Brien opted to skip the reboot, so it was best for him to sit out the Paramount+ reboot. Despite his non-involvement, the actor has expressed numerous times that he wishes the project and his old colleagues nothing but success. In fact, he even decided to lend Teen Wolf: The Movie his own Jeep to use as Stiles' signature car, proving that all is well between him and those partaking in the endeavor.
How The Teen Wolf Movie Can Address Stiles' Absence
According to the official synopsis of the project, a brand new threat arrives at Beacon Hills forcing Scott to return and lead a brand new mission in who appears to be Allison Argent, in Beacon Hills. Lydia’s arc is also tied to her relationship with Stiles. For what it's worth, both Posey and Hoechlin promised that O'Brien and Stiles' presence is felt throughout the film.
Can The Teen Wolf Movie Truly Work Without Dylan O'Brien's Stiles?
ittedly, the idea of doing a Teen Wolf project without O'Brien seems like a bad movie. His character was one of the several things that made the MTV show so popular; arguably, it continues to be what O'Brien is best known for even years after the series ended. That being said, this isn't also the first time that the franchise had to deal with this type of problem. Teen Wolf season 6 had to find a way to move forward with very limited involvement from the actor after O’Brien suffered an injury during Maze Runner: The Death Cure. For the most part, Davis and his team were able to find a way to make the best out of the situation. Despite the limited physical presence of Stiles, they were able to effectively incorporate him into its storytelling. It's obviously different that he will not totally appear in Teen Wolf: The Movie, but their past experience proves that they are able to come up with a compelling narrative despite minimal screen time from O'Brien. Perhaps, it can even set up Stiles' eventual return to Beacon Hill in case the project ends up being a success and a sequel gets greenlit.
