Hayley Atwell helpfully explains the meaning behind the title of Christopher Nolan's latest film unable to definitively say anything about it. Centered in the world of international espionage, Tenet looks to be focused on the prevention of a devastating, World War III-level event with the help of a form of time manipulation called inversion. With inversion, time can essentially be rewound, and it looks like John David Washingon's Protagonist will be using it quite a lot to save the day.

Beyond its twisty, mysterious plot, the other intrigue regarding Tenet comes from its release strategy. Once scheduled for release on July 17, Tenet was set to be the first major blockbuster released in theaters during the coronavirus pandemic. However, following a surge of cases in the United States, Warner Bros. opted to delay Tenet to August. Sadly, that date didn't stick either, as the studio briefly removed the film from the release calendar. Now the plan is for Tenet to open internationally in 70 countries on August 26 before debuting in select U.S. theaters over Labor Day weekend.

As audiences await the actual film, they have a new mystery to puzzle over, courtesy of 8. She narrates this new video that delves into the origins of the word "tenet," further exploring the mystery behind it. Based on what the video reveals, there could be some hints about what to expect from the film itself. Check it out down below.

As the video explains, "tenet" is featured in an ancient puzzle that has been carved into several notable Christian sites over time. When one digs into the other words found in the puzzle, they find Saturn, the Roman god of "time, agriculture, and magic." Considering how important time is to Tenet's plot, this isn't too surprising; if anything, it might help explain why Nolan opted to name the film Tenet, beyond the fact that the palindrome makes it especially mysterious.

Tenet's second trailer revealed that, in the universe of the film, the word "tenet" is a code word used by the agents. If that word holds a deeper significance within the movie, that has yet to be revealed, but it wouldn't be too shocking. That will be one of the many questions Tenet seeks to answer when it's finally released in theaters in a few weeks (provided it doesn't get delayed once again).
