Terrifier 3 reviews have been generally positive from critics, and the film, which features a budget of only $2 million, has been a major success with audiences in theaters.

Bloody Disgusting now reports that Terrifier 3 has grossed $55 million worldwide at the box office, making it the highest-grossing unrated movie in history. This impressive total comprises $44.5 million domestic and $10.6 million from overseas territories. The previous record-holder was Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé (2023), Beyoncé's concert film, which grossed $43 million worldwide, $33 million of which came from North America. Leone himself would acknowledge this Terrifier 3 milestone, sharing a celebratory tweet:

"Terrifier 3 crosses $50M at the worldwide box office and officially becomes the highest grossing unrated film, even suring the highest grossing NC-17 films," he writes. It's worth noting, however, that Leone is mistaken about the NC-17 films comment, as Lust, Caution (2007) currently stands as the leader in this regard with a $67 million worldwide haul.

The Terrifier franchise has been a major success. The first film was made on a micro-budget of $35,000 and earned just under $420,000, while the sequel earned $15.7 million on a $250,000 budget. Terrifier 3 was made on a franchise-high budget of $2 million, meaning it may have been looking at a break-even point around $4 million, a figure it very clearly sured. The Terrifier 3's box office success speaks to just how much audience interest there is in this gory franchise, and it bodes well for Art the Clown's future.

Leone himself has commented on the franchise's future, revealing that he has plans for Terrifier 4. He did say in a recent interview with Variety, however, that he "can’t see it going further than one or two more films." While there may only be another one or two movies on the way, it's likely that both will be major financial successes, especially if Leone can keep the budget around the same level as Terrifier 3. The franchise's success is also great news for Leone's future directing career beyond Art the Clown stories.

Before Terrifier (2016), Art the Clown appeared in two short films before making his feature debut in All Hallows' Eve (2013).

Our Take On Terrifier 3's Success

Audiences Can't Get Enough Of Art The Clown

It's hard to believe that Terrifier 3 has achieved such an incredible level of success. The franchise is mostly built around its depictions of extreme gore, and, for many films, this would be limiting. The curiosity factor, however, and word-of-mouth, are clearly working in Art the Clown's favor.

It remains to be seen just how high Terrifier 3's box office will go, and also whether the fourth movie will see the franchise's positive trend continue. Even if the fourth film doesn't match the third movie's success, it's almost guaranteed to be a highly profitable venture as long as the budget remains low. Many questions remain about Art the Clown's future, but Terrifier 3 certainly paints a promising picture of things to come.
