Update: Kevin Feige says MCU will soon have more female heroes than male heroes.
Tessa Thompson, who played Valkyrie in Taika Waititi's Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman as the eponymous character, is releasing after spending 24 years in development hell. And while it's the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 18th installment, it's only their first movie with a black superhero in the lead role. Now, the studio's next goal is presumably getting their first female-led superhero movie onto the big screen.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's a Black Widow solo film with Scarlett Johansson in the title role, but there are plenty of female superheroes that already exist in the shared universe who feel that they can band together and lead their own film. While Marvel won't say if that will ever happen, Thompson does believe it will - and not only that but that it will happen somewhat soon.

In an interview with Annihilation, Tessa Thompson says that the MCU's Phase 4 is starting to fill out with more female-led superhero movies such as Captain Marvel (which is actually part of Phase 3) and Black Widow, but also that there's interest in a potential all-female superhero film in Phase 4.
"I think [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige is really excited by the idea, and if you look at what's happened already in Phase 4 with me and [Thompson's character] Valkyrie and our story, and then in Black Panther the women rule supreme. There's an interest - they're doing Captain Marvel, they're doing a Black Widow - there's an interest in having women at the forefront of this phase. I feel like it's hopeful, who knows."
While Thompson is hopeful about a potential all-female superhero film, she also its that she doesn't know what happens behind the scenes at Marvel Studios - one of the most secretive production companies in Hollywood today. At the same time, however, Thompson has made similar statements in the past. In January, she said that Marvel's Phase 4 could be huge for female superheroes, thanks to Captain Marvel and the women in Black Panther.
Furthermore, Thompson's comments about Feige being excited about the idea is possibly in reference to the all-female Marvel movie she pitched Feige alongside her fellow Marvel superheroes - Larson, Johansson, Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), and Karen Gillan (Nebula) - during Marvel Studios' 10th anniversary gathering last October. Taking everything into , it certainly seems like there's genuine interest from everyone involved. It's just a matter of if it will actually happen.
