Want to catch up before the next release, or just revisit the universe for a refresher? Here's the order to watch the entire MCU timeline.

The MCU Needs To Move On From Thanos

While it remains to be seen if Kevin Feige will make a follow-up statement to Brolin's comments, Marvel Studios is not in need of another Thanos storyline right now. It's key to that the MCU spent more than a decade building up Thanos as the central antagonist for The Infinity Saga, which is why the end result was a success across the board. However, Avengers: Endgame was the proper time to wrap up Thanos' arc and pave the way for a new generation of villains.

As Marvel Studios is still dealing with their Kang situation following the firing of Jonathan Majors, having Thanos would only overshadow The Multiverse Saga foe and act more as a crutch. This is the same problem that an original Avengers movie with the core six has - which was rumored for a while in 2023 - as it would not allow the MCU to move forward but rather take steps backward. Having the MCU explore Thanos variants through What If...? is doable because he only serves as a ing player in that context.

While Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now being referred to as Avengers 5, Kang is supposedly getting recast for the MCU.

If Brolin were to ever come back to the MCU, it would be more interesting if he reprised the role of Cable from Deadpool 2, especially with the Deadpool 3 bringing Wade Wilson into the franchise. That would also be a fun way to have Deadpool break the fourth wall and acknowledge once again that Brolin has been involved with Marvel in more ways than one. Until Marvel Studios say otherwise, time will tell if Thanos will ever have any significant role again in the MCU.
