Gallowglass made his first comic book appearance in 2006’s Ultimate Fantastic Four #34 by Mike Carey and Pasqual Ferry, making his presence known to the Ultimate version of Marvel’s First Family in a big way. Gallowglass is introduced as a living weapon of mass destruction and the leader of Thanos’ Acheron forces. His powers come from his volatile, neutron-degenerate body which produces unimaginable power and devastation if not used carefully. Sadly, Gallowglass has never interacted with the Black Order due to his sole existence in the Ultimate comics. Although he is defeated and killed off by Invisible Woman and Dreamcatcher in Ultimate Fantastic Four #35, there is a possibility for the son of Thanos to make a comeback alongside his extended family in Earth-616.
Gallowglass Could Return Soon
Gallowglass’ return to the main Marvel continuity could see him his father Thanos and his children as the ultimate secret weapon against the Avengers and the Ultimates. In June 2023, Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch are planning to launch Marvel’s biggest crossover event yet with the four-part miniseries Ultimate Invasion. This storyline could breathe new life into characters not seen in several years. If Gallowglass is among the Ultimate characters brought back, he could cause unheard-of destruction fighting alongside the Black Order for the first time ever.
Gallowglass and the Black Order could finally be the evil super team that can take down the Avengers for good. Like the Black Order in the comics, Gallowglass lives to serve Thanos and destroy all life in service of the Mad Titan. But Gallowglass’ feats of strength speak for themselves. In his brief history in the Ultimate comics, his unstable molecules could not only blow up an entire city block in seconds but also overpower the Fantastic Four. Gallowglass is able to destroy an entire spaceship with ease and rip apart Invisible Woman’s force field, which could expand the entire Empire State Building and more. With the Black Order’s experience and assassination skills combined with Thanos’ influence, Gallowglass could be the ultimate weapon of revenge against both versions of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.
Gallowglass definitely has unfinished business with the Fantastic Four and the heroes of Earth who have challenged his all-powerful father. As the son of Thanos, he lives to conquer and annihilate all heroes on Earth. To see how Iron Man, Captain America and other heroes try to contain and stop the force of nature that is Gallowglass will be quite a spectacle.
