The cast of Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama. That '70s Show also starred seasoned actors Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp, Don Stark, and Tommy Chong. With the show's legacy still present in the public imagination, a reunion special needs to happen — and be set in the '90s.

That '70s Show followed teenager Eric Forman (Grace) and his circle of friends as they experienced the second half of the decade while growing up in Point Place, Wisconsin. Eric's basement was the group's main hangout spot, but they were often overcome with boredom. They had stoner tendencies that they tried to keep hidden from Eric's parents, Red (Smith) and Kitty (Rupp). The series focused on the struggles of being a teenager when it came to relationships, graduating high school, and moving on from the comfortability that came with youth.

The Fox sitcom ended well over a decade ago, but it still holds a special place in the hearts of many viewers. That '70s Show was Wilmer Valderrama, who played Fez, shared in an interview (via Entertainment Tonight) that the cast has had discussions about a reunion, but nothing is currently in the works. That's no reason to lose hope regarding the chances that it could happen in the future.

How A That '70s Show Reunion Could Work If It Was Set In The 1990s

The main six characters of That '70s Show on the water tower in Season 7

According to Valderrama, the core cast of That '70s Show is interested in doing some type of reunion. It would be smart if the reunion was set in the 1990s. When the series ended in 2006, the timeline concluded on New Year's Day when the clock hit January 1, 1980. The time jump to the mid-'90s would fit the same timeframe since the last episode aired, meaning the aging of the characters wouldn't be an issue. The younger characters would be in their thirties whereas Eric's parents would be in their upper sixties or early seventies. This would give a reunion the chance to focus on the characters after they were set in adulthood with families, careers, or major life changes. It would also be an amusing full-circle moment since the series initially debuted in the '90s. Nostalgia-driven content, especially the '90s, is still in high demand at the moment.

For a That '70s Show reunion to work, it would need to be a limited series or as Valderrama mentioned, a follow-up movie. It would only attract viewers if the majority of the cast were on board. It seems as though they are all interested, but Danny Masterson's recent sexual assault allegations may throw a wrench in his hopes for a reunion. The actor was fired from his role on The Ranch with That '70s Show costar, Ashton Kutcher, following the allegations. If some type of follow-up special does come into development, Masterson could very well be absent. Even if a reunion does happen, it might not be for a while, since the actors are busy with other projects.
